Research Management Plan: AN INTRODUCTION
Research is the systematic and disciplined activity undertaken to create and advance knowledge and understanding for innovations, economic development, social development, and environmental sustainability. It may take many forms across the disciplines, and involves the creation or refinement of concepts and theories, techniques, and different compositions of the extension of current understanding through critical analysis.
The Research Management Plan identifies the key research areas or themes where the College has the potential to engage in and formulate appropriate or clear-cut policies and implementation strategies for the enhancement and support of research in a manner consistent with the college plan.
In addition, it details the existing and intended administrative infrastructure design to support and encourage research and provide direction, policy and support for the planning and development of research activity.
Policy Context
The policy that directs and influences the College research activities is anchored on the Vision-Mission-Goals which more than aptly recognize the important role of research in the existence and operation of the institution. This is in line with the trilogy roles of the College which are instruction, research, and community service.
The College Mission states that an .academic Christian community subscribes and binds itself to develop, enhance, and strengthen the intellectual, spiritual, moral, and physical capabilities of the person through its religious education and administrative services consistent with its thrust of professionalism, excellence, and virtue..
Research Strategy
The College shall be committed to establishing its local and national reputation for excellence in research and post-graduate training. To realize this, the Research Center shall embark on programs and strategies that will allow it to tap the skills and expertise of its academic and research staff, attract talented and knowledgeable experts in the profession, support and build upon current research strengths and active identification and provide support and encouragement for emerging strengths, and look for scholarship grants.
To augment the financial support which the College is able to extend to the researchers, it shall promote alliances and collaborative partnership, actively seek support from various tertiary institutions, research centers, public agencies, and private sector where the College is able to find research undertaking of its staff on a limited basis; it shall also encourage and extend support to all its staff in seeking external funding when opportunities exist.
Research shall also be linked to teaching. Research shall be used as a tool to enable its academic staff to bring additional, stimulating and scientifically-based learning experiences in their teaching at all levels.

- Research Excellence
- To establish a reputation of excellence in research both local and national level.

- To enhance research activity of the institution by maximizing the availability of funding and ensuring its equitable distribution.
- To promote the participation of the college faculty in research leading locally to nationally significant outputs.
- To encourage, facilitate, and further improve the successful participation of the staff in completing the normally funded research grants.
- To increase the proportion of research funding obtained by the College that provides support for the full cost of performing the research.
- Research Management and Administration
- To ensure effective planning, management and provisions of the administrative services necessary to support the research and post-graduate activities of the College.
- To provide the mechanism by which the policy of continuous improvement in the quality, quantity, and recognition of the research output of the institution can be implemented effectively within its capabilities.
- Community Benefit of Research Investment
- To ensure that the community benefits fully from the research investment.
- To encourage the transfer/publication/dissemination and utilization of research outcome.

PRESIDENT
The President is responsible for the provision of the overall direction of research, instruction, and community extension and development. Specifically, he is tasked the following:
- Appointment of the Research Officer and members of the Research Council.
- Approval of research directions and priorities through research agenda and thrusts of the Institution, and research policies and guidelines in research grants for internally funded research.
- Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement for externally/internally funded research.
A. RESEARCH OFFICER
The Research Officer is appointed by the President for two years, subject to confirmation of the Board of Trustees.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Sets objectives of research aligned with the vision, mission, goals of the school on the following areas: research excellence, research teaching integration, research training and funding, research management and administration, community benefits of research investment;
- Initiates a favorable campus climate for research to encourage faculty members to engage in this field of work;
- Sets up standards for research proposal to final defense after consultation with the proper authorities;
- Prepares research/project proposals and presents them to the President;
- Identifies, develops, and maintains effective relationship with institutions or agencies whose resources the school can tap either for funding or other research-related purposes;
- Conducts research activities and other special projects approved by the President for the development of the students, faculty, staff and the school in general;
- Evaluates and upgrades research performance as needed;
- Provides direction and support for the planning and development of research activities;
- Submits to the President quarterly, semestral and annual reports and an updated annual directory of contacts (prospective funding agencies or institutions which may help the school in its research-related activities);
- Conducts semestral or annual evaluation of staff;
- Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the President.

- Submission of reports and annual directory of contacts on time;
- Achievement of the goals of Research and Planning Office in accordance with the Vision-Mission Goals of DWCC;
- Accomplishment of regular tasks;
- Accomplishment of extra tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the President;

- Fair and proper treatment of internal and external clients.
B. RESEARCH AND OFFICE ASSISTANT
Accountable and responsible for assisting the Research and Planning Officer in planning and evaluating research activities. Represents the Officer in the latter’s absence. Encodes final draft of researches and other materials. Assumes full responsibility of the office when the officer is out networking. Troubleshoots if the need so warrants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in coordinating research both within the academic and non-academic departments of the college.
- Encodes materials for dissemination purposes.
- Assists in finding sources of funding research projects.
- Encodes final drafts of the research projects.
- Prepares and encodes quarterly annual report on the state of research, planning and other reports as are needed.
- Writes and encodes letters to be dispatched to different offices, public or private.
- Assists the coordinator in reviewing write ups of research reports of the college and other agencies.
- Assumes full responsibility of the office when the officer is out networking, attending meetings, etc.
- Requests supplies, equipment, etc. and oversees the proper use of supplies and equipment.
- Goes to the different departments for dissemination of relevant information.
- Files important documents.
- Does other jobs that may be assigned from time to time.

The Team for Publication is the governing body in the conduct of departmental and institutional researches and other creative studies. Members are appointed by the President.

Qualifications
Members of the team of publication should be a Master’s Degree holder with sufficient experience in research projects and creative studies with a minimum background in Statistics and Data Analysis.
Basic Functions
- Evaluates departmental and/or unit proposals.
- Recommends research trainings for development.
C. RESEARCH EDITOR
The Research Editor is appointed by the President.
Qualifications
The Research Editor must be a Master’s Degree holder or its equivalent preferably English Major or its related field. Must be competent in both oral and written communication.
Organizational Relationship
Coordinates directly with the Research Officer and the clientele (faculty and students).

- To be competitive in the production of well organized research studies
- To enhance language efficiency and communication productivity
D. RESEARCH STATISTICIAN
The Research Statistician is appointed by the President.
Qualifications
The Research Statistician must be a Master’s Degree holder preferably Math or Statistics major or its related field. Must have experience in research designs in data analysis. Must be knowledgeable in the mechanics of research (presentation, analysis, and interpretation of data).
Organizational Relationship
Coordinates with the Research Officer and the clientele (faculty and students).
Objectives
- Enhance capabilities of the researchers in handling quantitative elements of research.
- Appreciate statistics as one of the languages of research work.
- Preserve the standard of qualitative approach in research by the formulation of accurate data analysis and interpretation.
- Produce quality research output through appropriate statistical tools.
The Council is responsible for the review and recommendation of the proposed research thrusts and research funding. The Council is also the monitoring body for the preservation of research ethics.
FACULTY AND STUDENTS
Faculty members are encouraged to participate and contribute to the body of knowledge through research related to the educational trends, issues and concerns of the institution and for the society as a whole.

Divine Word College of Calapan is committed to assist and facilitate in the social transformation through various in-service trainings and seminar-workshops that aim to continue and contribute significant research for knowledge expansion and values formation as well.
DWCC Research Center in collaboration with the different colleges has worked as a service unit and has designed a five-year research agenda for the different departments in order to assist in making research an integrated academic and professional activity of the faculty. This attempts an effort to instill the culture of research in the institution.
The Graduate School as a research arm of the College has improved services through the provision of quality training and has given emphasis in the observance of ethical procedures in writing research work. The collaborative effort of the institution contributes to the challenges in the field of education and to respond to its goals and mission statement.
The research thrusts will enable this pool of experts and researchers to commit themselves to creative work.
Furthermore, the Research Center encourages and promotes research activities reflective of indigenous Filipino culture and further continues formation programs based on interdisciplinary research.
DWCC Research Center, as partner of University of the Philippines Los Baños Commission on Higher Education, integrated the approved research agenda for Zonal Research Center (Regions IV & V) which will enable researchers to conduct research related to its thrusts.
