The Divine Word College of Calapan (DWCC), led by Fr. Renato A. Tampol, SVD, Ph.D., supports the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) in celebrating National Indigenous Peoplesโ Month this October 2024, with the theme โMga Katutubo at Katutubong Dunong: Pahalagahan, Pangalagaan, at Parangalan.โ
This celebration follows Presidential Proclamation No. 1906, signed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, which declares October of every year as National Indigenous Peoplesโ Month. The Constitution mandates the recognition and protection of the rights of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs).
DWCC recognizes the significant role of ICCs/IPs in the academic community; in fact, one of the institutionโs core values is Cultural Sensitivity. This emphasizes the importance of fostering a culturally sensitive community that values uniqueness and recognizes the distinct features of each individual in the pursuit of holistic development.
Alongside DWCC, the SVD in Mindoro is a prominent advocate for Mangyan culture, tradition, and vision through the Mangyan Mission.
