The name “Steyler Beanery” is derived from “Steyl,” a place in the Netherlands where the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries (Societas Verbi Divini, SVD) was founded by Saint Arnold Janssen, one of the patron saints of Divine Word College of Calapan, along with Saint Joseph Freinademetz. The term “beanery” refers to a casual, budget-friendly restaurant or café.
