A total of 427 graduating college and graduate students of Divine Word College of Calapan (DWCC) for Academic Year 2024โ€“2025 โ€” representing a 98.6% participation rate โ€” took part in a four-weekend series of tree planting activities at the DWCC Gloria Farm in Barangay Narra, Gloria, Oriental Mindoro, held from May 17 to 31, 2025.
The initiative was conducted in line with the directive of DWCC President, Fr. Renato A. Tampol, SVD, PhD, who emphasized, โ€œNo Tree Planting, No Graduation.โ€ This policy reflects the institutionโ€™s commitment to Pope Francisโ€™ Laudato Siโ€™ (Care for Our Common Home) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
Organized by the Community Extension Services Office, the activity aimed to promote reforestation, environmental stewardship, and sustainability through the planting of native and fruit-bearing trees. Native tree seedlings were provided by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Socorro.
โ€œThis is far more than a graduation requirementโ€”it is a calling rooted in stewardship. Our graduates leave not only with knowledge but with a purposeful legacy: a living contribution to the care and future of our planet,โ€ said Fr. Tampol.
